As second generation Americans, we have lived thousands of miles away from our grandparents. While we talk to them or video call them, it is just not the same as interacting with them frequently due to the difference in time zones. At the same time, we have lived in Monroe for almost 11 years. While there have been a lot of changes in Monroe over the past years, one defining aspect of the community that has not changed is the vast senior community. While some senior citizens have their family with them at all times, we were aware that there is a wide majority of seniors who miss their families, due to the lack of interaction, cemented by the pandemic. Our passion towards this cause stems from our own personal experience, and is what drives us to care about the needs of the seniors and address them. This has inspired us to pursue the creation of this organization called ‘Coalition of Seniors and Youth’ “COSY Monroe”, that enables a forum for these two sections of the community to come together and interact in ways that would be beneficial for both demographics while strengthening the fabric of our community in a creative way.
